Learning Objectives for Hold Me Tight Relationship Enhancement Program: An Emotionally Focused Therapy Approach
This is an introductory course in the principles of attachment and adult relationships.
1. Explain the centrality of attachment theory in understanding couple distress
2. Identify secure attachment behaviors using terms of attachment theory
3. Describe the attachment / behavioral strategies associated with insecure attachment
4. Identify one’s own attachment strategies
5. Identify the three most common interaction patterns of couple distress
6. Describe common experiences of “pursuing” partners
7. Describe common experiences of “withdrawing” partners
8. Explain how the negative cycle/Demon Dialogue is 'the problem" in couple distress
9. Outline distress patterns in one’s own intimate relationships.
10. Describe emotional vulnerabilities underlie attachment strategies
11. Describe the process for interrupting a stuck pattern of couple disconnection and distress to restore a felt sense of safe emotional engagement.
12. Describe how attachment injuries (which are different from common injuries or hurts) can impact a relationship
13. Explain the process of healing attachment injuries
14. List 3 primary attachment needs
15, Explain how secure bonds are shaped through A.R.E. conversations
16. Explain how emotional disconnection can impact a couples sexual relationship
